notes on the music of champagne socialism

so, what can i say about the music of champagne socialism? good question. glad you asked. you've read the genres, but now let me explain. we started off doing very slow, very sad music at marx cafe and st. ex, but asylum calls for a new approach. more energy, more vigor, more guitar, more fun. no problem. while by no means a dance-event, the music focuses on indie, spanning the common era from 1974 to the present, with the occasional foray into things like blue note jazz or blue-eyed soul.

we have a rotating cast of djs, and each dj brings his or her own sensibility to champagne socialism. from the jazz stylings of neville chamberlain to the indie/classic disco/soul stylings of melissa kelly, to the french pop, grime and hip hop of the cricklewood massive to the classic shoegaze, punk, postpunk and modern indie of william alberque and victoryrose. it's eclectic, it's different, and it's, quite frankly, wonderful. try us.
